About US

My life has been spent as an animal lover. I grew up in a family that had many different pets including horses, cats, rabbits, birds, dogs, ducks, fish and even a monkey.

In 1972, I received my first Golden Retriever, Jacob, as a present. He became my first show Champion. In December of 1975, I had my first litter of Goldens under the Jayba prefix (a combination of the names of my first two Goldens Jacob and Sheba). I have bred and owned more than 60 Golden Retriever show Champions, along with OTCH’s, many other obedience titles, Agility Dogs, Licensed Field Trial Dogs, Working Certificates, Outstanding Sires and Dams, and just about every title recognized by AKC and the Golden Retriever Club of America.

In 1986, Dazzle, our first Cavalier, came into our life as a gift for our daughter Michelle to show in Junior Showmanship. Soon Michelle and Dazzle were “dazzling” everyone in the junior’s ring and consistently winning the blue ribbon. We were all, by then, totally in love with the Cavalier and over the course of many years gradually turned our full attention to the showing and breeding of Cavaliers.

Michelle and I have been privileged to love and be loved by many wonderful Cavaliers over the years! We have bred and owned many CKCSC, USA Champions, AKC Champions and Grand Champions. It makes us especially proud that all our champions are owner/breeder handled to their titles. We are grateful to all the judges, not only from the USA, but around the world who have given us many fabulous wins including Best In Shows, Reserve Best In Shows, Group Placings, Group Wins, Best of Breeds and Best In Specialty Show in AKC.

In 2006 and 2013, we won Puppy of the Year competition! In addition, several of our dogs have been the Number 1 Top Winning Dog in the CKCSC, USA and they have consistently ranked in the top dogs, year after year.

We had Champions before importing from the UK a dog that ultimately bridged the old to the new, our Macnab. He was a multi Best In Show Dog but most importantly, a sweet loving little dog. Macnab gave us many lovely children but his greatest contribution to Jayba and the breed was that he sired our Teddy. Teddy achieved everything asked of him in the show ring. He is not only a top winning show dog, but a sire of many Champions, which are consistent winners of the National Specialty. He won the National Specialty, and two consecutive Awards of Merit at the ACKCSC National!

Our breeding program was solidified when Teddy’s two sons Gene and DJ won the BEST IN SHOW, and the RESERVE BEST IN SHOW at the 2010 CKCSC, USA NATIONAL SPECIALITY. The very special part of this win was that we were the breeders/owners/ handlers, and a mother and daughter team. This is a feat never accomplished before in the history of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club. DJ also was Best of Winners at the ACKCSC National Specialty. Our girls Honey, Suzy and Rose were also the RESERVE BEST IN SHOW at the National Specialty three years in a row. You can see on all our dogs’ individual pages, the depth of their wins, and the consistency of our breed type.

I am a licensed CKCSC, USA Judge, and have judged many AKC Sweepstakes in both Golden Retrievers and Cavaliers. I was honored to judge an Open Show in England. I love showing and the challenge of producing dogs that represent the best of the breed. I am currently Vice President of the CKCSC, USA, and have held many positons in breed Clubs.

Michelle is close to meeting all her requirements to judge in both the CKCSC, USA and in AKC. She is currently serving on the Board of Directors of Cavaliers of the South. I know that one day, JAYBA will continue under Michelle.

All our puppies are direct descendants of the dogs shown on this website and the experience of 44 years of devotion and dedication to dogs.

Our commitment, continually leads us on our path for the development, and preservation of the beautiful, healthy, loving Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. We have valued the many friendships formed over the years, with not just our show friends but the many people who have been proud to be owned by one of our dogs.

Thank you for visiting and we hope you enjoy our web site.
